NASA intends to send a manned mission to the moon in 2028 – for the first time people have been traveling there since 1972.

The space agency said it was "on the threshold of achieving more than we could ever achieve" because President Trump presented a new budget.

The budget – $ 705 million lower than last year – "will continue to build key elements of the exploration campaign that will send astronauts to the Moon and beyond," NASA said.

The budget includes the new space station "Lunar Gateway", which will circle the moon by mid-2020, as well as the budget for a manned mission to the moon by 2028.

"For the first time in over 10 years, we have budgeted for the return to the moon with people," said NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine.

"I'm talking about landers rated by people who are compatible with the gate, which can return to the surface of the moon.

"The moon is a testing ground; Mars is the goal of the horizon. "
