Composer Aribert Reimann received the "Der Faust" theater prize for his oeuvre. Barbara Nüsse is considered to be the best actress – it's actually a kind of life-time honors, says Michael Laages, theatrical critic.

"Barbara Nüsse has been a member of German houses for nearly 40 years and has lived for almost nine years in the Thalia Theater in Hali, and one of the essentials of women's modernism in German theater," says Michael Laages, theatrical critic. This year he received the German Theater Prize "Der Faust", the most significant German theater prize that was awarded this year in Regensburg. It was against the strong competition, says Laages. "It's very fun and enjoyable," he says. Nüsse was awarded with Prospero as "Der Sturm" at Thalia Theater in Hamburg.

The efficiency of theater is important

The director Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson was also pleased. The award was awarded in the "Edda" category. In his acceptance speech he said:

"The artistic process of theater is completely useless and in a world that is growing rapidly in economic efficiency, which almost destroys people, theatrical efficiency is the most important."

This year he first won the Perspective Award. "This is so important because it does not really belong to the activities of the stage club so far," says Laages.

To draw attention to the theater situation

The award was awarded to the "40,000 Theater Workers' Meeting with Representatives". This is an attempt to meet and talk to politicians about art making people. Politicians must be aware of the theater situation and have to win the theater.

"Faust" is a decade-long prize and is awarded in eight categories. The award is based on theatrical proposals, such as theater prizes for artists – but the theater can not propose its own production.

The entire "Faust" Gala is on November 4, 2018, in the digital documentation of Deutschlandfunk Kultur entitled "Documents and Debates".
