Kraftfahrtbundesamt (KBA) discovered in a diesel scandal, the newspaper, a previously unknown software fraud at Daimler, reports.
The authorities opened a formal hearing against the car manufacturer in connection with the suspicion of another "unacceptable shut-off device," Bild reports on Sunday. Accordingly, this applies to 60,000 vehicles of the GLK 220 CDI model with the emission standard 5, which were produced in 2012-2015.
According to the report, the authority came in the autumn of 2018 regarding the controversial function of the software in the OM 651 engine. Further measurements of emissions on the GLK model would justify the suspicion. Thus, the legal limit value for nitrogen oxides in the New European Test Cycle (NEDC) is only met if the so-called coolant temperature control is active. On the other hand, this function is deactivated in road traffic, and the limit of 180 milligrams per kilometer is clearly exceeded.
A spokeswoman for Daimler confirmed the consultation process: "We fully cooperate with the Federal Motor Transport Office and examine the facts described." As part of the hearing, we will present our point of view on KBA. "
The KBA has already issued official appeals against Daimler in several cases. So far, 280,000 vehicles have been affected in Germany. Although Daimler carried out the withdrawal, he lodged an appeal against all notices.
It is said that KBA has discovered that the discovered feature has been removed unnoticed in the Daimler software updates. "The claim that we want to" hide "something in the context of volunteering is inaccurate," said Daimler's spokeswoman. "Of course, we follow the approval process agreed with BMVI and KBA to service the announced voluntary service activities for more than 3 million Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the field."
