The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has analyzed three-year data on 33 sections and 1300 kilometers of motorways, where speed limits have been increased as part of the 2014 rural safety and speed review.

As a result, 15 sections of the motorway, with a total length of 570 kilometers, will have speed limits withdrawn by 10 km / h. Along with two corridors, which were reduced in 2016, this represents 660 kilometers from B.C. Highways where speed limits are being phased out. The remaining routes did not show a higher number of accidents, and the speed limits will remain the same, including Coquihalla, in which variable speed limits operate.

"It's okay to reduce speed, but forcing further action is necessary," said Delisle. "The police must be on this road."

Said Cpl. Mike Halskov, media officer at B.C. RCMP traffic services: "We will continue to do what we have always done, enforce speed limits, regardless of what it is. Health inspector, Dr. Bonnie Henry, said speeding is one of the three main factors contributing to car accidents, especially in rural areas and remote from B.C.
