The dependence on opioid drugs, such as fentanyl and oxycodone, is an epidemic in Canada and the US, two countries with the world's largest intake of opioids per capita. This is the Hamilton crisis, where the death rate associated with opioids last year was 72 percent higher than the provincial average.
