Defense Minister Alberto Espina was the victim of an unexpected protest by a group of journalists from the National Congress after taking part in the Intelligence Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.
This is due to the revelation that before the so-called "Surveyor Operator", in which the phones of four active and retired soldiers who reported corruption in the army were intercepted, the institution conducted the same spy maneuver against journalist Mauricio Weibel.
Press specialists showed posters saying that Espina "by spying on the press is damaging democracy" in connection with data revealed this Sunday by the La Tercera newspaper.
Through the social networks, the congress press emphasized that "regarding the eavesdropping by the army of journalists who were investigating corruption in this branch of the Armed Forces, we told Defense Minister Alberto Espina that we completely reject those practices that: undermine democracy."
