A behind-the-scenes look at Mladá Boleslav: this is how Škoda produces 1,150 octaves per day

Nowadays, full enthusiasts will not be watching a car race, entry is forbidden in front of journalists’ cameras. Therefore, Škoda offers footage from the line for the new Octavia in a separate film.

The car manufacturer in Mladá Boleslav underwent a major overhaul prior to the start of production of the fourth-generation Octavia in November last year, not least due to the new edition of the Škoda bestseller.

A unique feature of the Volkswagen Group is the fact that, in addition to the 1,150 new Octavia, 350 Enyaq IV models will be built in the same lane – purely electric cars on the MEB platform. Like the electrified versions of the Octavia, including the Hybrid AV Plug, it requires a special approach.

“Extensive preparations included, among other things, adjusting the building structure and parts transport technology to the weight of pure battery cars and assembled components. The total investment in the necessary design modifications was over CZK 800 million, ”says spokesman Tomáš Kotera, adding that it is possible to flexibly respond to the demand for individual model lines.

In production, the car manufacturer relies heavily on the help of modern robots. They take over work that is physically onerous for the employee.

To date, more than 7.1 million octaves have been produced at the main production plant of Škoda Auto in Mladá Boleslav. The origins of this model date back to 1959. In the mid-1990s, the production of the first modern generation began as the first Škoda to be fully developed under Volkswagen wings. In the same hall M13 where Octavia is still being built.
