Solutions at the European and international level for refugees – Newsbeast

Immigration and refugee they are not national problems. These are European and international problems, require solutions at European and international level and a new approach that meets the challenges of today's reality.

This is underlined by the president of the Central Union of Greek Chambers Konstantinos Michalos in his speech at the General Assembly of the Central Union of Chambers of Greece, which took place on Friday 9 and 10 November in Chios, at the request of Chios Pantelis Legatou, president of the Chamber of Commerce in Chios, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the House.

More specifically, as announced by the Chamber, Konstantinos Michalos in his speech referred to the perspective of enterprises after the country's departure from the memorandum and immigration policy.

In particular, as reported by the Athens agency, Mihalos he stressed: "We know that immigration and refugees are not national problems, they are European and international problems.

They need solutions at the European and international level. They require a new approach that will respond to the challenges of today's reality.

In such a complex and multifactorial issue, there is no easy solution. But there are basic principles that must be a political compass.

– The principle of solidarity between Member States in the field of asylum and asylum immigration.

– Enhanced cooperation with third countries of origin and transit of immigrants.

– Respect for fundamental rights and the dignity of refugees and immigrants as a key criterion for any policy implemented.

In addition, the positions of the Chamber of Commerce are clear:

  • In principle, we unite our voices with local island communities, calling for the removal of geographical restrictions, the transfer of immigrants to the mainland and the return of illegal persons to Turkey, in accordance with the provisions of the agreement.
  • We are calling for specific measures to be taken to support the local economies and enterprises concerned.
  • We also call for an end to the revision of the Dublin Treaty, with a view to a fairer and more balanced system for the allocation of asylum seekers.

However, the most necessary is the adoption of a coherent, common approach on the part of the European Union. An approach that goes a step beyond individual strategies and exploits that undermine the foundations of European construction.

Europe must do what it has not done in connection with the debt crisis. To work with a shared vision, cohesion, determination. If not, then speculation, isolationism and even nationalism will become even more apparent.

Effective treatment of refugee and migration issues is a matter of survival. For local communities, enterprises and citizens of the Eastern Aegean Sea. In the case of Greece. For people looking for a second home. But also for the European Union itself. "

The Secretary General for Trade and Consumers Dimitris Avlonitis referred to the cooperation of the Ministry of Economy and Development with the Chamber of Deputies and stressed that the chambers are undergoing restructuring by strengthening their staff in terms of better and more efficient results in the modernization of the market and the business world, with emphasis to support small and medium enterprises.

The Mayor of Chios Manolis Vournous appealed to immigration and the need to restore the regularity of the island of Chios, stressing at the same time that public investments, such as the expansion of the airport of Chios, are necessary to achieve growth.

Deputy SYRIZA, Chios Andreas Michaelides, stressed that the ten-year crisis left wounds, more to small and medium-sized enterprises, but they are gradually and collectively closed when the country entered the phase of economic growth.

The new democracy MP Noti Mitarakis referred to the need to reduce taxes for businesses, the importance of creating opportunities for progress and prosperity, creating education to monitor the economy, the immigration crisis and the need to strengthen the local economy by relying on shipping, tourism, primary production and innovation.

The regional governor of the northern part of the Aegean, Christian Kalogirou, referred to the immediate need to cut off the island from many migrants and stressed that extraversion and flexibility are necessary to rebuild the market.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Shipping Dionysios Tebnonas stressed the day-to-day struggle with the Coast Guard in the Aegean Sea, emphasizing its important and irreplaceable action, at the same time referring to the importance of coordinated efforts for even greater effectiveness.

The president of the Chios Chamber, Pantelis Legalos, spoke about the difficulties of local companies, saying that on the one hand the migration problem, which hinders tourists from attracting tourists, and the weight of a given country for this problem makes it difficult for the island to grow.

Celebrations of the 100th anniversary took place on Saturday evening, November 10, 18, at the amphitheater of Yannis Karalis at the Aegean University, where the president of KEE and ACCI Konstantinos Michalos and former presidents of the Chamber of Commerce in Chios were awarded.
