Sixteen people were injured when a gas cylinder exploded in the ground and in a four-story apartment building in the Lalbaug district of Mumbai on Sunday morning. Two fire brigades and two large tankers were thrown at the scene, according to the news agency ANI, quoting Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The explosion at the Sarabhai Building was reported at around 7:23 AM and the fire caused by the explosion was extinguished by 7:50 AM. After the explosion, the residents of the building were moved to the Hiramani Hotel in Lalbaug.
Of the 16 injured, 12 were transferred to King Edward Memorial City Hospital (KEM) and four to Global Hospital. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar visited KEM Hospital to meet the injured.
