“But now, in this phase of growth, things are even worse,” says Emi Bondi, director of the mental health department of Asst Papa Giovanni XXIII in Bergamo. “Contrary to spring, today we lack a factor that has helped citizens a lot: social cohesion. This ingredient that allowed even the most sensitive people to cling to each other to gain strength, find energy, fierce response to a pandemic. Now, however, we are bearing the consequences of an unusually prolonged and prolonged period of stress: the victims in spring were not enough, after the relative calm of summer, we plunged back into the darkness, not knowing for sure when the situation would return to normal.
