Six-time world motorcycle champion Marc Marquez, absent from the start of the 2020 season due to a broken right arm, underwent a new operation on Thursday.
His Honda team said, “Marc Marquez has had new right arm surgery as a result of the slow recovery of the humerus.”
The 8-hour operation at the Roper International Hospital in the capital city of Madrid included “removing the previous plaque and replacing it with another” in addition to the bone graft.
The prominent Catalan cyclist, 27, has undergone three operations since falling before the end of the Jerez Grand Prix in July in the MotoGP category.
The Honda team has not announced the length of Marquez’s absence, but the Spanish newspaper Marca said his return will not take place until May next year.
The 2021 season is expected to start in late March.
