The head of the Food Importers’ Syndicate, Hani Bohsali, believed that “rationalizing the basket is very important, but it will not affect many citizens.”

And on Voice of Lebanon Radio 100.5, Bohsali said, “staple commodities like sugar, rice, grain and meat are still among the subsidized commodities. Regarding the items that have been left out, these are those that have been counterfeited or those that have not been requested by traders or industrialists. ‘

“Rationalizing the shopping cart is very important, but it will not affect many citizens as essential items are still present and supported,” he added.

Bahsali noted that “overall we have noticed a significant drop in import costs which affects the shortage of imported goods, but we are far from starving and the quality of the goods will be different.”

He concluded: “We will remain in this state until we find solutions and revitalize our economy, and things must first be resolved politically because we are going for the worse.”
