Background of the Crimean bridge for the Russian "propaganda" rom-com – Świat

The new bridge connecting the annexed Crimea with the Russian continent is an unlikely background for state-funded rom-com, comparable to Soviet propaganda and criticism.

Sexual "Crimean bridge: born with love!", Which was opened in Russian theaters last week, wrote Margarita Simonyan, the head of the RT news channel owned by the Kremlin.

The film, shot during the construction of the 3.7-billion bridge opened in May for damnation from the West, focuses on the adventures of a young, mature archeologist.

She is being prosecuted by a PR man who came from Moscow to oversee relations with the media of the bridge, as well as by the builder, who in one scene culminates the plane on the construction itself.

The photo comes from last year's state-funded film "Crimea".

Director Tigran Keosayan, Simonyan's husband, suggests that malicious bots and "sick people" are responsible for the low rating of the new video on user review sites.

But KinoPoisk, one of such Russian aggregators, claims that the reactions are real.

"This movie turns out to be a strange hybrid of" Crimea "and" American Pie "- wrote Egor Belikov for the cultural guide Afisha.

"The bridge is like an iron phallus, now and forever inserted into the body of the newly acquired peninsula by the Homeland," he said.

Krytyk Anton Dolin watched the film, but he said that the creators were able to come up with a new genre – a "romantic-patriotic comedy".

Writing about the medusa Meduza, he said that the film was a "rather strange machine of time", transferring the viewer to Soviet propaganda paintings from the 1930s.

Viewers "busy"

"It is a pale imitation of Soviet propaganda, but the Soviet state had a monopoly both on what the viewers could see and on the subject of actors and directors," said political scientist Ekaterina Schulmann.

She said that the sale will probably be strengthened by children and students in state institutions that will be drawn into the film en masse.

"In this way, commercial results are achieved, but sales are irrelevant – the point is that so many people watched this production and produced some signs of success."

According to federal lists, from the end of last week the movie took a total of about 44 million rubles (667,000 USD). The Russian media reported a budget of 300 million rubles (4.5 million dollars).

The Moscow annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, after the anti-Russian uprising in Kiev, enjoyed widespread popularity in the country, but caused indignation abroad and sanctions from the EU and the US.

The film was also criticized for the image of the Crimean Tatars, a minority group persecuted under Stalin and under increasing pressure since Moscow's return to the peninsula.

Some viewers, however, said that they just enjoy sun-soaked romance.

"We are not obliged to listen to your loud, depressive nonsense," wrote Russian author Igor Maltsev about the opposition critics of this film on his Facebook page.

"Normal people will go to watch a funny, good movie about summer and love."
