The defensive misfortune between Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Clement Lenglet cost Barcelona dearly as Cadiz dealt a humiliating 2-1 defeat on Ronald Koeman’s side.
Martin Braithwaite retained his place in the Barca squad after a series of impressive appearances, but there were few signs of the attacking fluidity shown recently by Catalans when Cadiz shocked the lead early.

A corner kick from the nearest post caused chaos in Barcelona’s penalty area as Oscar Mingueza was heading towards his own goal. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen did everything in his power to keep him, but Alvaro Gimenez ended up on the line.
Koeman made two substitutions at half-time with Ousmane Dembele and Pedri coming off the bench. The pair had the desired effect when Barcelona caught a catch after Jordi Alba’s cross was scored by Pedro Alcala.
The Catalans came shortly after, however, when Lenglet and Ter Stegen had a huge mistake, which allowed substitute Alvaro Negredo to charge the goalkeeper and hit the net a few seconds after entering the field.
The result means Cadiz have beaten Barcelona and Real Madrid twice in La Liga this season, with the promoted team moving ahead of the Catalans in the table.
TALK POINT – Barcelona’s mini revival is over and the same old problems remain
Barcelona entered the match after three wins in a row, so there was a perception that the Catalans had turned the corner in their season and the introduction of Braithwaite was identified as something that brought balance. But that was another demonstration of how far away from what Koeman’s team is right now. This will prove to be one of Barcelona’s most humiliating defeats in recent years. Even by this season’s standards, it’s a new low.
THE MAN OF THE MATCH – Alberto Perea (Cadiz)
The former Barcelona player B was the best player on the pitch. Indeed, Alberto Perea brought energy and enthusiasm to the Cadiz performance. There were many notable host performers including Negredo and Jeremias Ledesma, but it was Perea who caught the most attention, especially in the second half, when Cadiz had enough ambition to push for a second goal after Barcelona returned to 1-1.
