Research: 11 million children will die from pneumonia until 2030

11 million children under the age of five will die from pneumonia until 2030. Results from research.

Over 880,000 children – mostly under two years old – died of pneumonia only in 2016.

Based on the forecasts of today's trends, more than 10.8 million children under five years of age will die of this disease in the next twelve years. The study was conducted by scientists from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA and the Redd Barna humanitarian aid organization.

This is generally only the older population in the developed countries affected by the disease. In the less developed countries, most children are affected. Among the countries that will be affected are Nigeria and India, which 1.7 million children will die due to this disease. 700,000 children will die in Pakistan and 635,000 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to research.

The researchers also found that 4.1 million children could be saved if the vaccination program was intensified and more people had access to antibiotics.
