Former President of the Republic, Martín Vizcarra, announced on Friday evening his intention to run for Congress of the republic, by the Somos Perú political group.
In statements to Nothing is said with MPC newsthe former chairman assured that he had received an invitation from the party’s chairman, Patricia Li Sotelo.
“Yes, I am going to apply (…) We spoke and received a formal invitation from the chairman of the Somos Peru party“Said the former president.
According to a letter sent by the leader of this group, Vizcarra Cornejo will head Somos Perú’s list of candidates for the Legislative.
The former president said he had thoroughly analyzed the possibility of running for the legislature after Constitutional Court declare inadmissible the claim for competence in the first employment attempt presented by your Government.
No immunity from ongoing investigations
Asked if by this decision he had sought to exercise parliamentary immunity in the investigation that followed, Vizcarra stated that the pre-administration investigation did not include immunity, so if elected he would continue to be involved in the trial against him.
“I am participating in an investigation conducted by the appropriate prosecutor’s office and I will continue to serve her throughout the campaign, and had she been elected with the support of the population, I would have continued to serve that purpose”He pointed.
The former president also announced that one of his election flags will be a reform of the concept of parliamentary immunity, which he believes has impunity for some legislators.
“One of the flags that I am going to wear in this election process, which is to be met in Congress if he is elected, is precisely the complete reform of the concept of parliamentary immunity. It cannot be that the Congress of the Republic has used parliamentary immunity as parliamentary impunity, he said.
