MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) strongly support all initiatives that will lead to a real and lasting peace.
This was emphasized by the head of the public affairs office of the AFP, Colonel. Noel Detoyato, when he was looking for a comment about the possible meeting between President Rodrigo Duterte and peace negotiators of the National Democratic Front in the Philippines (NDFP) this month.
"We support peace initiatives and dialogues, we always think positively that peace initiatives will create favorable conditions for peace, for the benefit of philosophers who love peace," said Detoyato in a Monday press release for journalists.
"(Although your AFP is always prepared for war, we are also prepared for peace," Detoyato stressed.
Earlier, the chairman of the NDFP negotiating panel, Fidel V. Agcaoili, said that together with Coni Ledesma they had a planned trip to the Philippines this month, in connection with their work as members of the NDFP component in the joint monitoring committee under a comprehensive agreement on respect for human beings. Law and international humanitarian law (CARHRIHL).
"We will be accompanied by Mr. Luis Jalandoni as a senior advisor in the NDFP negotiating panel," he added.
Agcaoili said that they had been invited to a meeting with the new Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines.
"Therefore, we are happy to meet with the president, unless he does not want to, or his army is against it," he added. (PNA)
