The new Ferrari 488 GT Modificata racetrack borrows GTE and GT3 racing gear

The Ferrari 488 GTB may have been replaced by the F8 Tributo, but the manufacturer was not done with it. On Wednesday, Ferrari unveiled the 488 GT Modificata, a circuit-exclusive limited edition featuring elements from the 488 GT3 and 488 GTE race cars.

Ferrari has used the Modificata branding in the past on updated versions of its road cars, but the 488 GT Modificata is an extension of the manufacturer’s track-day program. It was designed for the Ferrari Club Competizione GT events, where it will race against historic closed-wheel racing cars (including the older 488 GTE and GT3 versions).

Ferrari has five Club Competizione GT events scheduled for 2021, at Virginia International Raceway, Watkins Glen, Monza, Suzuka and the Nürburgring. Owners will also be able to attend the annual Ferrari Finali Mondiali motorsport festival.

The Modificata uses the same 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine as the other 488 versions. The Modificata produces 690 horsepower through a different representation. The car also has a reinforced gearbox with a carbon fiber clutch.

The refreshed aero components move the center of pressure forward which, according to Ferrari, generates more downforce without increasing drag. Maximum downforce is 2,204 lb. at 142mph, the manufacturer said.

Ferrari equipped the Modificata with 488 GTE suspension and 488 GT3 anti-lock brake system. As with modern racing cars, owners also have built-in data acquisition that allows you to download data directly to a USB drive. A high-resolution rear-view camera, passenger seat and tire pressure monitoring system are also standard.

It is unknown how much will be built and how much it will cost you.

Despite the launch of the F8 Tributo, Ferrari is in no rush to recall the 488 track version. Last year, it unveiled a new version of the 488 Challenge race car (for the single brand racing series), as well as the updated 488 GT3 Evo.
