– It turned out that the ministry gave 24 hours to estimate the operating costs of the hospital at the National Stadium. One day to estimate costs. He says to everyone we talk to that it is impossible – said Dariusz Joński, member of the Civic Coalition during the press conference.
Last week, MPs from the Civic Coalition – Dariusz Joński and Michał Szczerba – started an inspection of the functioning of the temporary hospital at the National Stadium. To this end, they announced a visit to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Interior and Administration. The aim of the project was to “control the rationality of spending funds” on this hospital. On Tuesday morning, they shared further conclusions at a press conference.
“Conflict of Interest”
– During our audit, it turned out that two people, two deputy directors of the hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, which protects the hospital at the National Stadium, one of them is also an employee of the health technology assessment and pricing agency, and the other is a member of the transparency board at this agency. These are two deputy directors who are also cooperating with the institution that prepared the cost estimate and valuation of services for the hospital at Narodowy. We see a huge conflict of interest with Mr Szczerba, he said.
He added that the parliamentary control proved that the Minister of Health “cheated and misled the parliamentarians.” – Saying that he has nothing to do with the construction of the temporary hospital, that no one consulted with him. It turns out that it was he who sent the letter to this agency to estimate the costs – said Ioński.
The deputy also added that the ministry gave 24 hours to estimate the operating costs of the hospital at the National Stadium. – One day cost estimate. He says to everyone we talk to that it is impossible, because estimating the cost of the hospital well is at least a few good days – he said.
“This matter needs clarification”
Both argued that in their opinion the director of the hospital at the National Stadium, Artur Zaczyński, was a “good specialist”. – I do not question this, neither is Mr Szczerba, but at the same time he is a member of the transparency council of the agency which carried out the financial calculations which showed that this hospital receives 21 and a half million. We really believe there is a conflict of interest that should not exist, argued Ioński.
– How could there be a situation where we are faced with such a gigantic conflict of interest, when someone is a judge in his own case, when someone sets the stakes, while being in a double role. This matter requires clarification – said Michał Szczerba.
MEPs also said they were being asked about financing the hospital. Let us recall that during the previous conference, the deputies announced that the monthly cost of operating the hospital at the National Stadium is PLN 21 million, 583, and the monthly costs of the hospital management are PLN 624 thousand. PLN 416, while the National Health Fund pays PLN 820 for the maintenance of one available bed in a hospital at the National Stadium, while in an ordinary hospital PLN 100, maintenance of one ventilator station costs PLN 3773 at the National Stadium, and PLN 200 in an ordinary hospital. – We check it, but in the era of lack of financial resources in the health service, for everything, the “national hospital” has too much money, only patients are gone. This is a total misunderstanding, ”said Ionian.
