"Walk for Diabetes" and conference in Quarteira

On November 11, the city of Quarteira receives "Walk for Diabetes", an initiative promoted by the Lions Club of Vilamoura, with the support of the municipality of Loulé and the city council of Quarteira.

The race starts at 9:30 in the morning, in front of the Quarteira city center, followed by two routes: 5 km and 8 km.

According to the press release of the Loulé commune, in the morning, from 10:00 to 12:00, also in the space in front of the Autarchic Center, a free demonstration on diabetes for the general public will take place.

Then at 1:00 in the afternoon, the solidarity lunch of Saint. Marcin, at Wild Chicken, worth € 25.

In the afternoon there will be two conferences in which two doctors will take part: at 13.00 the theme of Mara Marques will be diabetes, and at two o'clock in the afternoon Maria José Pires told about the work carried out by the Oncology Association of the Algarve.

It is recalled that the World Day of Diabetes is marked on November 14 in order to raise awareness and draw the attention of citizens and governments to the problem of diabetes.

Currently, diabetes is the most common non-infectious disease with a high prevalence and an increasing incidence. It already reaches about 415 million people around the world. Portugal belongs to European countries with one of the highest rates – 13.3% of the population of Portugal aged 20 to 79, which corresponds to over one million people, according to the latest data from the National Diabetes Observatory.
