Airtel signs with Nokia to prepare its telecommunications network for 5G



(Ecofin Agency) – Nokia will modernize Airtel Kenya’s telecommunications network for three years to meet customer demand for high-speed connections. The operation will also help prepare the telecommunications company’s infrastructures for the transition to 5G.

Nokia announced on November 30th, 2020 that it had been selected by mobile operator Airtel Kenya to modernize its telecommunications network and lay the foundation for 5G. Operations, which began last June, will cover hundreds of locations and include enhancing the coverage of existing 2G, 3G and 4G radio access networks in urban, semi-urban areas, highways, tourist locations and business districts. from Nairobi and the rest of Kenya.

Nokia will also equip Airtel Kenya with technologies that it can use to migrate to 5G if necessary. The entire network is updated under a three-year contract.
