If you need a new show to watch this week on Netflix, check out Narcos: Mexico, available on Friday, November 16.
Recently Netflix was playing a good criminal game. Last year we got a new, riveting series Mindhunter; this year we got the stellar new season Ozark and even mockumentary American vandal he was a huge hit before he faced an appeal. One of the most consistently popular crime dramas on the streaming website is Narcos and, happily, the series gets a companion serial that will be released this Friday, November 16.
Like the original program, Narcos: Mexico it is zeroing with illegal drug trafficking. As the name suggests, however, it will move from Columbia to Mexico. Specifically, it will outline the infamous Guadalajara cartel in the 1980s.
With the change of location, the cast is changed. Diego Luna (Rogue One) will play Félix Gallardo, the leader of the cartel. Michael Peña will be opposite him (Ant-Man and wasp) as Kiki Camarena, a DEA agent whose task is to gather information about Gallardo. Both actors have deep ties to Mexico and it should be exciting to see their work in this capacity.
Before this project, none of the performers was known as a leading man, so it should also be interesting to see how they finally get their main vehicle. Despite having his own neuter Netflix movie, ExpiryI would still say that Narcos: Mexico is one of the first major Peña projects as lead.
This new series has been described as complete Narcos "Reset", so do not expect too many old faces and plots. It is rather an exciting new opportunity to see a similar program exploring another drug trade. Although it was set in the 80's, Narcos: Mexico it still promises to be extremely interesting, especially in the light of the tragedy in which one of the local scouts, murdered in Mexico, participated.
