Southampton 2-3 Man United: Super-sub Cavani saves United late

Edinson Cavani came off the bench and scored to end Manchester United’s return to Southampton.

Jan Bednarek’s head and James Ward-Prowse’s nice free kick made Saints dream of his first home league game against the Red Devils since 2003.

However, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side squandered a two-goal lead and Cavani turned the game upside down, fielding Bruno Fernandes ahead of scoring to secure a sensational late triumph.

This was the tenth time United have defeated Southampton from the rear in Premier League history – a victory that saw them move up the standings and continue their 100% start in their lives on the road.

Few could have predicted such an outcome as Ward-Prowse brilliantly beat David De Gea shortly after sending a clever corner for Bednarek to open the scoring on an empty St Mary’s.

Solskjaer turned to summer signing with Cavani at half time and couldn’t dream of a better result as he secured Fernandes’s assist before he won the win with a buckle.
