Within more than a month of becoming a covid hospital, Jesenice General Hospital (SB) treated 126 patients with COVID-19, 17 of whom were in the intensive care unit. While they currently have sufficient capacity for people infected with the coronavirus, they lack them for emergency hospitalization of patients with other diseases.

For COVID-19 patients, there are facilities in two internal medicine wards and in containers in the courtyard. There are also beds for children and pregnant women in the gynecology and obstetrics ward. In total, the hospital has 56 hospital beds for these patients. This number of hospital beds is sufficient in relation to the epidemiological facility in Gorenjska. So there is no need for additional capacity for COVID-19 patients for now. The exceptions are intensive care beds for patients who are only four years old in Jesenice. “But unfortunately we do not have any additional possibilities to increase the capacity here”, they explained.

Where to put a stroke patient

As they noted, the current lack of hospitalization of patients without the new coronavirus, especially in the internal medicine ward, is of particular concern. “We lack the possibility of hospitalizing emergency patients with other diseases such as stroke and cancer” indicated in the SB Jesenice.

Along with the general improvement in the epidemiological picture in Gorenjska, the number of infections among hospital workers is now decreasing. Namely, workers return in greater numbers after recovering from infection than new ones. “Unfortunately, we had the infection to get through to the The white zone, which can increase the number of infections among workers. We also discovered new infections among patients “, they also reported from the hospital.

New container

In other parts of the Gorenjska region, health services are still being adapted to the epidemic. For example, the day before, the civil protection of the municipality of Gorenja vas – Poljane placed a container in front of the medical station in Gorenja vas to receive and treat patients suspected of being infected with the new coronavirus.

This will greatly reduce the risk of new infections as potentially infected patients with the new coronavirus will not be able to see other people who come for regular check-ups with personal doctors for other reasons. They will not take swabs into the container, the entry point for research for residents of the commune of Gorenja vas – Poljane remains in Škofja Loka.
