Madrid – Already in 2006, Corolla, with its wide range, from the rally device to the fuel-saving owner, was very popular in the entire Toyota range. The change of the name Auris, in which the Latin name for gold was supposed to lie, "aurum", remained rather unfortunate. In fact, in the Romans "auris" was also called Ohrwaschl, and that the compact Japanese looked similar then, in the end did not contribute to the spectacular success.
Along with the return to the traditional name is also a submissive look at the story. Corolla looks with sharp headlights and a massive, deeply embedded honeycomb lattice, determined in its future. Pleasantly designed side surface opens in a five-door, sporty and bold butt, pointing to the independent nature of LED lights indicated in the middle. The combination called Touring Sports extends to a five-door, six-inch extended wheelbase and hid its agility by at least 4.65 m, with properly selected overhangs and an elegant, leaking roof line. Both body types are equipped with a new double wishbone rear axle, which allows a more precise and quick response.
The cockpit and interior as a whole have clear lines and a high-quality mix of materials. Toyota is pleased to not join the new German wave of hard plastic: both levels of the dashboard are made of soft foam quality, the graphics of the central screen of the information and entertainment system are easy to read. From the previously known versions, the logic of operation has been developed and practically does not require explanation in the application.
In addition to the well-known, agile 1.2-liter gasoline engine with manual transmission, to launch on the market from February 2019. Two hybrid engines are offered: a 1.8-liter variant with a maximum power of 122 HP and a torque of 142 Nm, and another 180 hp and 191 Nm with a completely new 2-liter-Aggregate – diesel engine with long stroke, combined intake and direct collector Bezineinspritzung and largely electrified auxiliary elements.
For now, only a stronger version was available for the initial test disks, which can also be moved dynamically if necessary. The combined use of the internal combustion engine and electric motor is perfectly harmonized, even at higher loads, there is always enough power to enjoy extremely precise control, total stress, but never uncomfortable suspension and strikingly neutral handling. Usually the downer, although with every update becomes smaller, remains a CVT transmission with an eraser effect, which Toyota uses for reasons of efficiency, costs and durability. The effort of six simulated switching stages is significant, but in practice, but it does not make any difference – sometimes it seems that the effect can only be by jumping the number on the digital gear display. To compensate for this, both hybrids illuminate the exemplary CO2 values of 99 and 106 grams per kilometer. In an arithmetically possible consumption of 3.8 liters, we lost almost 0.7 liters – 4.5 liters is a practical value.
At the January Car Show in Vienna, both body styles will be shown, prices will be announced in December and will probably be around 10 percent higher than in the previous Auris series.
