On Wednesday, July 17, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, signed a decree on a simplified procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for the residents of Donbas living in the territory of the regions of Luhansk and Donetsk, and not only the territory of ORDLO. Putin has expanded the possibility of simplified obtaining of Russian citizenship for all residents of Donetsk and Lugansk Ukraine. Previously only residents of the so-called "Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republic" had the option and only for holders of passports of these "republics."
Now it is possible to acquire Russian citizenship in a simplified manner and holders of Ukrainian passports who live in the entire territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
The decree is published on the official website containing legal information. This document amends the previously published presidential decree of 29 April 2019 "On certain categories of foreigners and stateless persons who have the right to apply for citizenship of the Russian Federation in a simplified manner".
To obtain citizenship, residents of two regions must submit a document confirming their permanent residence in their territories from April 7 and April 27, respectively.
