Inflation in Brazil in October 2018 amounted to 0.45%



The National Consumer Price Index – IPCA for October showed a deviation of 0.45%, leaving 0.03 percentage points (p.p.) below the index registered in September, 0.48%. This result is the highest since October one month since 2015, when HICP recorded 0.82%. Accumulated during the year amounted to 3.81%, above 2.21% recorded in the same period last year. In the perspective of the last twelve months, the index was 4.56%, slightly above 4.53% immediately preceding 12 months. In October 2017, the rate reached 0.42%.

In order to calculate the monthly index, prices collected from September 28 to October 26, 2018 (Reference data) were compared with prices in force from August 30 to September 27, 2018. (Basis).

In the table below, the Food and Beverages group showed price increases (from 0.10% in September to 0.59% in October), while the transport group slowed from 1.69% in September to 0.92% in October. In total, these two groups account for 43% of family costs and constitute approximately 70% of the monthly rate. In the position of electricity (0.12%), from the Housing (0.14%) group, the rates were adjusted in the following areas: 15.23% in one of the concessionaires in São Paulo (0.25%) from October 23; 6.18% in Brasilia (0.35%) and 15.56% in Goiania (1.06%), both effective from October 22. The remaining surveyed regions ranged from -2.39% in the metropolitan region of Recife and 6.56% in the Fortaleza region, due to the increase or reduction of PIS / COFINS rates.

It should be noted that since June a red envelope with a customs flag No. 2 has been in force, with an additional fee of 0.05 USD per kWh consumed.
