Panasonic S1H is a monstrous camera when it comes to video, to the extent that it has taken its place next to much more expensive cameras thanks to Netflix certification for use as the main camera in productions.
The Netflix production guide specifies that at least 90% of the program's execution time should be filmed with cameras on their approved list. The list of approved cameras is the one who means expensive, dedicated video cameras, with models such as Canon C700, RED Ranger Helium 8K and more filling their entries. Each of these cameras is video-oriented only, and most of them come at a price of five digits. On the other hand, for $ 4,000, the Panasonic S1H, although not cheap, is extremely affordable compared to the rest of the approved list cameras, making it a very attractive option for budget productions that still want to get their content to the platform. Film makers using the Netflix content camera will have to shoot at least 4K in V-Log at 10-bit 4: 2: 2 10-bit ALL-I (400 Mb / s), as well as with other requirements. This is definitely exciting news for independent filmmakers and low-budget productions. You can read the full list of approved cameras and shooting requirements here.
